Jenna Ortega blames Justin Theroux for making her break character during Beetlejuice 2 shoot

Jenna Ortega has blamed Justin Theroux's "ridiculous" performance for making her break character during a scene while filming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The Scream actress couldn't keep a straight face in scenes with The Leftovers star because his performance was so "absolutely ridiculous".

"There was no way that I was gonna look at Justin and not crack up. He's absolutely ridiculous in this movie. He was dangerous to shoot with," she said during BuzzFeed's Puppy Interview. "I think it was the first time that I'd ever really broke (character), genuinely, because of what he was doing because every take was completely different and I just never knew what he was gonna do. His character's disgusting, in the best way."

The 21-year-old, who also struggled to keep her composure working with Catherine O'Hara, added of the overall experience, "While we were filming, I had to keep reminding myself that I was working as well because I just wanted to watch."

Both Ortega and Theroux are newcomers to the Beetlejuice franchise. She plays Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz, while Theroux plays Lydia's manager and fiancée Rory.

O'Hara and Ryder reprised their roles as Delia and Lydia Deetz after 36 years to shoot the follow-up to the 1988 original with Michael Keaton as the titular bio-exorcist.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, once again directed by Tim Burton, will open the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday.
