They produced Oscar-worthy magic in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and ‘American Hustle’ – but now things are getting a bit more epic for Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
The pair are reuniting for the Susanne Bier-directed ‘Serena’. You can watch the exclusive first trailer above.
Based on Ron Rash’s novel, Cooper plays a North Carolina timber magnate during the Depression. He falls for Serena (Lawrence), a bold, bright woman who – judging by the footage – shocks the locals who expect most wives to be subservient.
But all is not what it seems. There’s illegitimate children, a murder, failing empires, coldblooded ambition, madness…let’s just say it’s all going on.
To us, it looks like ‘Cold Mountain’ meets ‘There Will Be Blood’, with a little bit of 1971’s ‘McCabe & Mrs Miller (with Warren Beatty) thrown in.
Toby Jones, Rhys Ifans are part of the ensemble, as well as that bald bloke from ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’.
Cooper and Lawrence shot the film between production on ‘Playbook’ and ‘Hustle’, but according to reports, Danish Oscar-winner Bier took more than 18 months to make the film.
A source recently told The Hollywood Reporter, “We didn’t want to be the OK version of the Jennifer Lawrence-Bradley Cooper coupling.”
You can decide whether it was worth the wait when ‘Serena’ is released on 24 October.
