Jon Favreau's planned film adaptation of hit stage musical The Jersey Boys has reportedly been dropped.
The Iron Man director had been developing the project and had apparently been considering Dominic Cooper, Paul Dano and James Badge Dale among his choices for the lead roles.
But now Variety reports Warner Bros has decided the film is too much of a gamble to make as it does not have enough international appeal.
Hugo writer John Logan had adapted the musical for the big screen.
Jersey Boys: The Story Of Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons presents a documentary style story of Frankie and his band's rise to stardom and features hits including Walk Like A Man, Big Girls Don't Cry, Oh What A Night and Can't Take My Eyes Off You.
Jersey Boys opened on Broadway in 2005 and has won a string of Tony awards. It has since opened in London's West End and around the world.
