Jim Carrey to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Rubber-faced funny man tipped for a role in Spider-Man sequel.

After cramming a number of familiar faces into 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' it looks as though we might see one more… as rumours suggest an appearance by none other than Jim Carrey.

Just when we thought the Spider-Man sequel had crammed in enough Marvel characters, it looks as though 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' could feature yet another familiar face… And this time, it's in the form of rubber-faced comedian, Jim Carrey. But has he really signed up at all? And if he has, with the number of characters climbing, who will he end up playing?

After refusing to promote his latest comic book movie 'Kick-Ass 2' it's been a fairly controversial time for Jim Carrey. But if you thought his role as Colonel Stars and Stripes was violent, you're in for a bit of a shock when it comes to his latest role…

Rumoured to appear as Carnage (or rather, the symbiote's human host, Cletus Kasady) in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' it looks as though Carrey hasn't quite had his fill of violent comic book roles.

Unfortunately, we've had no official confirmation about Carrey's involvement… and as the rumours began in the SuperheroHype forums, it's to be taken with a huge pinch of salt. At least, for now. But I have to admit, this rumour does have a certain ring to it.

Claiming that a family member had worked on the crew during New York filming, a forum user explained that "another well-known actor was on the set. The actor is someone who hasn't been mentioned in connection with this film." And the actor was eventually revealed to be Jim Carrey.

Unfortunately, details of his supposed role are non-existent. But with a little help from twitter, we have been able to piece a few things together…

In a fan tweet from March 13, it was revealed that Jim Carrey had visited the Spider-Man 2 set… and this lucky fan had his picture taken with him to prove it. Given the fact that the scenes shot in March were set at the Ravencroft Institute, it's no big leap to tie Jim Carrey to the role of Carnage. Especially since Cletus Kasady was an inmate there during the 'Maximum Carnage' series.

Unfortunately, it's a lot of speculation… and maybe we've put two and two together to make five. But it certainly looks as though Jim Carrey could be involved. Of course, he was rumoured to play Carnage in the cancelled 'Spider-Man 4'. But will he play Cletus Kasady in this all-new series? And does this mean Carnage will have a greater role in later instalments? For now, we'll just have to wait to find out.

What do you think of this incredible rumour? Could Jim Carrey appear as Cletus Kasady? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
