Jim Carrey has said he is “probably” retiring from acting.

The Hollywood star, who turned 60 this year, made the career announcement during an interview with Access Hollywood to promote his new film Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

The interviewer told Carrey that there were rumours that Dolly Parton liked the idea of him having a role in a film about her life.

He said he was a big fan of the country music star but added: “Well, I’m retiring but… yeah probably.”

Asked if he was being serious, Carrey replied: “I’m being fairly serious, yeah, yeah."

“It depends if the angels bring some sort of script that is written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break," he went on.

The Cable Guy actor said that he loved his quiet life and loved to paint, and that he also felt as if he had achieved “enough”.

He said: “I feel like, and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists, I have enough, I’ve done enough, I am enough.”

Carrey got his start as a stand-up comedian and first found screen fame in 1990 after he nabbed a role in US sketch comedy programme In Living Color.

He went on to land showy roles in movies such as The Mask, Dumb And Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and its sequel Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

He starred as Dr Ivo 'Eggman' Robotnik in 2020's Sonic The Hedgehog, and reprised the role for the sequel, which is out now.
