Jimi Hendrix biopic won’t use his music

In a bizarre revelation Jimi Hendrix's iconic songs won't feature in a film about the musicians life

The upcoming biopic of Jimi Hendrix, 'All Is By My Side', won’t use any of the legend's music - but not because his estate denied them use.

Andre Benjamin (aka OutKast's Andre 3000) will star as the musician, and the film's production team did not ask Hendrix's estate for the use of any of his famous tracks.

A spokesman for the estate told Deadline: “To the best of our knowledge, this production never approached Experience Hendrix about licensing the music.”

Director John Ridley and the cast will focus on Hendrix's youth in Seattle and his time in the Army, as well as the time he spent playing back up for Little Richard and the Isley Brothers, among others. This means there will be no need for the movie to pay to use his famous music.

Haley Atwell and Imogen Poots have been cast alongside Benjamin, and shooting begins in Ireland later this month.
