If you'd been wondering what Joaquin Phoenix and Ari Aster have been up to over the last year or so, wonder no more: they're set to start shooting a new film together on 28 June.

We don't know a great deal about Disappointment Blvd yet – and it's very much Blvd, not Boulevard – but the blurb that's doing the rounds is that it will be "an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time".

Aster said back in July 2020 that the next film he was planning to work on a "nightmare comedy," so perhaps we're looking at something in the same tonal ballpark as Inherent Vice. "All I know," Aster went on, "is that it’s gonna be four hours long." Which would make sense if this is going to be a Citizen Kane-style life story, but then again, that might very well not be Disappointment Blvd.

You know Ari Aster from writing and directing the cranium trauma classics Midsommar and Hereditary. He's become A24's golden goose, and he'll both write and direct Disappointment Blvd. Will he make it a trilogy of films in which at least one character gets their head stoved in? A biopic of a successful entrepreneur doesn't sound like a very promising stage for that sort of thing, but if anyone can find an operatic way to bonk someone on the noggin, Aster can.

Lastly: whats with the Blvd? No idea. Sorry.
