John Boyega Says Sorry For Diversity Comments During Awards Speech

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ star John Boyega has apologised for comments he made about diversity in the movies at the Screen Nation awards.

The 24-year-old scored the gong for best male performance at the London ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of British film and television talent from African heritage.

Accepting the award, he said: “To complain about what is going on is not going to benefit us. It is not.

“Be the change you want to be. Be the change. And continue and focus. Thank you so much.”

Clearly hoping to make a point about race in the movies, as highlighted at this year’s Oscars, he later came under criticism for the remarks.

He later apologised for the comments in a series of late-night tweets, saying that he was 'full of emotion’ at the time.
