John Boyega Teases Reunion With Attack The Block Director Joe Cornish

He may have found worldwide fame as Finn in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ but evidently John Boyega has not forgotten about the movie that got him started: ‘Attack The Block.’

The 2011 sci-fi action horror was the feature film debut of both Boyega and the film’s writer-director Joe Cornish - and now, the actor has hinted that the duo may be getting back together.

Boyega told his Twitter followers on Saturday, “Saw Joe Cornish the other day. Yes. We are brainstorming. #somethingnew”

The kneejerk reaction to this would of course be to assume an ‘Attack The Block’ sequel is on the cards - something which both Cornish and Boyega have spoken about in the past.

Then again, Boyega’s ‘something new’ hashtag would instead suggest - well - something new.

While it flopped on release (making a reported $5 million worldwide off a $13 million budget) the 2011 British production soon became a cult favourite.

It launched a then 19-year old Boyega as Moses, a young London tower block resident who leads his friends in a battle against carnivorous alien invaders.

This would seem to have set a pattern for the young actor as a sci-fi hero, given that - on top of his ‘Star Wars’ role - Boyega will soon battle alien monsters again (albeit considerably bigger ones) in ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.’

However, ‘Attack the Block’ remains Joe Cornish’s sole directorial credit, though he was long attached to spy movie ‘Section 6,′ which ran into trouble when the James Bond rights-holders took legal action over alleged copyright infringement.

In the meantime, Cornish has been linked to a number of high-profile movies including ‘A Good Day To Die Hard,’ ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,’ ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and ‘Kong: Skull Island.’

He has been more prolific as a screenwriter, co-writing Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ and the initial draft of Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’ with Edgar Wright.

But if Boyega’s words are anything to go by, we may be seeing Cornish back in the director’s chair soon - and we look forward to finding out what the film in question might be.
