John Lydon has said caring for his wife Nora Forster has left him getting very little sleep.

The Sex Pistols singer revealed last year that he is a carer for his wife of 40 years, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

"It's both physically and mentally demanding to the point where I get no sleep hardly at all, ever, but at least she's happy and that's it," he shared in an appearance on Loose Women on Wednesday.

"Nora's always had an incredible sense of humour and I've got to say British comedies, thank you Brit Pop on the box, it really keeps us together. It's a giggle fest."

He added that his eyesight is also deteriorating but he wasn’t able to seek help because he can’t leave Forster alone.

“I have really bad eyesight, it is deteriorating at an alarming pace but I can’t go anywhere to take care of that because I can’t leave her alone.

“And with this virus floating around the way it is , I can’t introduce the concept of that back to her when I come from a clinic, let alone try and go there with a chauffeur ‘cause I don’t drive. Any way you look at it, it’s a problem,” he explained.

When the 64-year-old spoke about his situation as a carer last year, Lydon said he was looking after his 79-year-old spouse full time.

“I am her full-time carer and I won’t let anyone mess up with her head,” he explained.

“For me the real person is still there. That person I love is still there every minute of every day and that is my life. It’s unfortunate that she forgets things, well, don’t we all?”

On Loose Women, Lydon said he would have to “slowly but surely” introduce other carers to Forster as he is set to go on tour later in the year.

The pair married in 1979, with Lydon becoming stepfather to The Slits star Ari Up, who was just six years his junior at the time.

In 2000 they became the guardians of her twin sons, with them also taking legal guardianship over her third child upon her 2010 death.

The couple currently reside in California and Lydon has been vocal about his support for Donald Trump.

Amid the presidential race last November, which was eventually won by Joe Biden, he described Trump as "the only hope" for the country in a charged rant at Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain.
