Johnny Depp makes out of court settlement with crew member who accused him of assault

Johnny Depp has reached a settlement agreement with a crewmember who claimed the actor assaulted him on set.

Location manager Greg “Rocky” Brooks sued the Pirates of the Caribbean star alleging Depp punched him twice while drunk on the set of the 2018 crime drama City of Lies, co-starring Forest Whitaker.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed court documents have been filed revealing a settlement has been reached, and the case will be dismissed if Depp, 59, completes the unspecified terms by the end of August.

The filing reads: “The settlement agreement conditions dismissal of this matter on the satisfactory completion of specified terms that are not to be performed within 45 days of the date of the settlement. A request for dismissal will be filed no later than 1/5/2023.”

The case will be reopened if Depp does not complete the terms in time.

Brooks had claimed Depp punched him twice in the rib cage after he tried to explain to the actor that they had to stop filming during a late-night shoot in Los Angeles.

Brooks alleged that Depp 'reeked of alcohol' during the alleged altercation, and after punching him, challenged: “I will give you 100,000 dollars to punch me in the face right now.”

He says that Depp’s security guards had to hold him back, and that three days after the incident, he was asked by a producer to sign a declaration that he wouldn’t take legal action.

Brooks claimed that he was fired when he refused to sign.

Depp responded that he ‘feared for his safety’ during the incident, and acted out of both self-defence and the ‘defence of others’.

He added that he witnessed the movie’s director Brad Furman also ‘fearing for his safety’.

After the suit was filed, City of Lies script supervisor Emma Danoff defended Depp, saying she has proof the incident never happened.

Danoff said in a witness statement that Depp only confronted Brooks after the location manager made racial slurs towards a Black homeless woman.

Depp was represented by Camille Vasquez, his lawyer in his trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

The actor won a victory against Heard in their recent defamation trial after a jury ruled in his favour. Depp sued Heard for libelling him in an article she wrote in 2018, alleging that she was a domestic abuse survivor.

The article did not name Depp specifically.

Heard - who had counter-sued Depp in return - was ordered to pay him $10.35 million in damages.

The couple met on set of 2011 film The Rum Diary. They married in 2015 and Heard filed for divorce in 2016.
