Jon Voight has brought some early festive cheer, by buying up the Thanksgiving shopping of a stranger in the queue of a branch of Walmart in Kentucky.

28-year-old Sydney Gholston was waiting in line to pay for six turkeys, when Angeline Jolie’s dad piped up.

“I was helping the lady scan the turkeys and the man behind me said, ‘You must have a big family. That’s an awful lot of turkeys’,” she told ABC News. “I said, ‘I work at the Home of the Innocents’.”

Voight then started asking about the home, a charity helping children in crisis based in Louisville, for which the turkeys were to be the centrepiece of a Thanksgiving meal.

“I looked up and said, ‘You look a lot like Angelina Jolie’s dad’ and he said, ‘Why would I look like that?’,” she added. “He joked around with me at first.”

But then he got his wallet out, and bought all six of the turkeys as a gift.

“I thanked him and and we took a picture,” Gholston went on. “Very nice guy. He was very interested in what we did at the home. He said that was wonderful.”

The pic was then shared on the Home of the Innocents’ Facebook page, with the message: “Jon generously paid for the turkeys to feed our kids next week! We are so thankful for his generosity!”

The meal will feed 70 children attending Thursday’s celebrations.
