Joseph Gordon-Levitt joins Sin City 2

JGL to play a major role in Rodriguez’s sequel

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been cast in leading role in Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’.

The ‘Dark Knight Rises’ star will play new character Johnny, described by producers as “a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game".

Gordon-Levitt has been a veritable rumour magnet of late, with talk of him appearing in ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ and even Warner Bros.’ ‘Godzilla’ reboot. But now it appears he’s turned both roles down in favour of the ‘Sin City’ gig. Good choice.

"I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality,” said the 31 year-old actor, “Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez."

As it turns out the role was originally offered to Johnny Depp, but we think JGL’s addition just knocked the hype up a notch.

Production on the second adaptation from Frank Miller’s graphic novel series is already underway, with Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Jaime King, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson each returning to their roles from the 2005 film. Dennis Haysburt will replace Michael Clarke Duncan as Manute after the star’s death last September, however no word yet on who might do the same for Brittany Murphy’s character Shellie (if she returns).

Who exactly will be playing the “dame to kill for” is still up for debate.

The film follows Dwight (Owen), as he plans his revenge against the woman who betrayed him.
‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’ is set for release 4 October 2013.
