Joss Whedon wants to make a Star Wars movie

It looks as though Joss Whedon wants to make a ‘Star Wars’ film.

During an interview with Collider, the 52-year-old filmmaker revealed that he wants to make a ‘Star Wars’ movie… as long as it’s nothing to do with the main saga.

“Do I want to make a Star Wars movie? Yeah,” he explained. “I was like, ‘I don’t want to make a Star Wars movie. Like, god dammit, why?’ But I saw the trailer for Rogue a while ago and I was like, ‘I want to do that.’ To make a Star Wars movie and not be wed to the bigger picture.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time he’s discussed the possibility of directing a ‘Star Wars’ movie… and while numerous fake rumours went around connecting him to an upcoming anthology film, it seems he’s yet to receive an offer.

But he has previously given his take on what he would do for a ‘Star Wars’ sequel.

And the main point? Not bringing back the original stars.

“You know, I wouldn’t go back, I’d go forward,” he said in an interview with Digital Spy. “I would want to create characters that would resonate the way that they did. I mean not that I don’t want to see [the new movies], I would be excited to, but I also feel like I would want to explore a very different part of that universe.”

A very similar sentiment to his comments on making a ‘Star Wars’ movie.

And who can blame him?

After directing ‘Avengers Assemble’ and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, it looks as though Whedon is ready to put interconnected franchises behind him. But that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t want to be part of the ‘Star Wars’ universe. What self-respecting geek, wouldn’t?

But will Joss Whedon get the chance to make a ‘Star Wars’ spinoff?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
