Julia Roberts named new 'ambassadress' for Chopard

Julia Roberts has been named the new 'ambassadress' for Chopard.

The Oscar-winning actress will also front the luxury jewellers' Happy Sport campaign, which will feature two new timepieces, and Julia confessed she's always been a fan of the Swiss brand.

“Wearing a truly exquisite piece of jewellery to an event always ups the ante. It takes the glamour factor to the next level," she told WWD, joking that she was "all or nothing" when it came to jewels. “If I put on a necklace, I put on five. If I put on a bracelet, I put 10 on each wrist.”

The 53-year-old will front the Happy Sport billboard, digital, editorial campaign, and also appears in three short videos, directed by Xavier Dolan. One video goes behind-the-scenes of the Chopard shoot, another is a Q&A with Julia, and the third shows the Pretty Woman star blowing kisses and being playful to the camera.

Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s co-president and artistic director, said Julia was picked instantly to become an ambassadress for the luxury brand because of her "classically modern, classically chic" style.

"They actually came up with 1,000 names. But I said, for me, there is only one that springs to mind: Julia Roberts. She doesn’t endorse any company except Lancôme and that’s a very good thing," she told WWD.

“Some actors can only be the nasty or cute. But like the facets of a diamond, Julia can transform herself into different facets. This is also what I was looking for with Happy Sport watch. It’s 28 years old and still very modern and contemporary. It’s totally timeless and Julia is timeless," Caroline added.

Julia will also serve as the 'godmother' of the Trophée Chopard, which is presented to an up and coming actor and actress at the Cannes Film Festival.
