Universal's fourth Jurassic World movie has received a disappointing update, as director David Leitch has stepped away.

The stuntman turned filmmaker, who previously helmed Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train, was in talks to direct Jurassic World 4.

According to a report from Deadline, Leitch had a different vision for the film to the studio, and they amicably decided to part ways before he signed on the dotted line. The hunt is currently on for a new director.

Currently expected to release in July 2025, Universal has got the writer of the first two Jurassic Park films, David Koepp, in to do the script. No cast members have been announced yet, but it is expected to focus on a new generation. That means no Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and the like.

Although this sounds like a lot to turn around in a year and a half, Universal has apparently been developing this one behind the scenes for quite some time.

Colin Trevorrow, who directed the first and third Jurassic World movies, said back in 2022 that most of the sequels have done the same thing, which is why he tried to do something different with Dominion.

"It's inherently unfranchisable, there probably should have only been one Jurassic Park," he said, "but if we're gonna do it, how can I allow them to tell stories in a world in which dinosaurs exist, as opposed to, here's another reason why we're going to an island?"

The newest Jurassic movie currently has a release date of July 2, 2025. David Leitch's newest film, The Fall Guy, will be released in the UK on May 2, and in the US on May 3.
