Jurassic World Scribe Will Write Pacific Rim 2

It looks as though ‘Pacific Rim 2’ has found its writer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Jurassic World’ writer Derek Connolly in on board for the upcoming ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel.

“Derek Connolly, the co-writer of Jurassic World, has been tapped to work on Pacific Rim 2,” they reveal, “the sequel to Legendary’s mechas vs. monsters directed by Guillermo del Toro.”

‘Pacific Rim’ was the 2013 American-Japanese monster film, which largely features enormous robotic ‘Jaegers’ battling the monstrous ‘Kaiju’ who appeared through a portal in the Pacific Rim.

“Drafts have already been worked by del Toro, Zak Penn and Jon Spaihts,” they explained. “And while plot details are being kept under wraps, at one point it was to have been set many years after the original movie and where the monster-fighting robot suits known as Jaegers have become commonplace.”

It’s unclear whether Derek Connolly has taken on a page one rewrite of the project, or whether he’s been brought on to develop his script from existing storyline ideas.

‘Pacific Rim 2’ will be directed by ‘Daredevil’ showrunner, Steven DeKnight who takes over from Guillermo del Toro.

“Del Toro remains involved with the project as one of the producers but is not directing the sequel.”

Although Derek Connolly is new to the ‘Pacific Rim’ universe, he certainly seems like a rather nice fit. After all, he made a name for himself with ‘Jurassic World’ and went on to write the upcoming monster movie, ‘Kong: Skull Island’.

It’s a rather impressive monster-themed resume for someone taking on the Kaiju.

But will ‘Pacific Rim 2’ manage to top the original?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
