Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has opened up about a sweet moment she shared recently with husband Derek Draper, now that he has returned home.

The television presenter's partner was admitted to hospital due to severe coronavirus complications back in March 2020, and was only discharged earlier this month.

While his recovery is still ongoing, Garraway – who recently fronted a documentary special about Derek's illness – told those tuning in to today's GMB (April 22) that having him in familiar surroundings is "genuinely helping his cognition".

She also spoke about how "wonderful" it is having him back with the family after such a long time apart.

"He actually said something the other day," she recalled. "I walked in to say, 'I'm off to Smooth [Radio] now' and he said, 'New dress?' Which was just amazing, and it was actually.

"I thought that was so amazing on so many levels, because he recognised it. Second, he realised and remembered that I need a lot of flattery, so there was some emotional connection there and some basis of what our relationship has always been based on.

"It was just a little moment. We're back to the moments in between, and a very busy home now with lots of experts and teams coming in and out," Garraway added, before thanking the carers for their "incredible" work.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV, and is available to catch up via ITV Hub. Kate Garraway's book The Power of Hope, reflecting on the family's journey, is available to pre-order now.
