Kate Mara Doubts Fantastic Four Will Get A Sequel

‘Fantastic Four’ may have taken a hammering by fans and critics alike, but will it get that reported sequel? Kate Mara doesn’t seem to think so…

During an interview with The Times, the 32-year-old actress and star of ‘Fantastic Four’ said that she isn’t expecting to head back for the reported sequel.

“We have no idea if we’ll ever make another one,” she said. And following the controversy surrounding the first film, that’s hardly surprising.

After ‘Fantastic Four’ was released, it received a critical panning from both fans and critics… and the focus soon shifted to the barrage of problems which apparently went on behind the scenes.

Director Josh Trank was rumoured to have caused plenty of friction on set, and the studio itself was accused of cutting funding for large portions of the film… resulting in the loss of large action sequences which could have given the film a bit more substance.

Will we ever get to the bottom of what really happened? Probably not… but Kate Mara admits she hasn’t even brought herself to watch it yet.

“No,” she said. “But I will eventually.” Mara added that the harsh critical response to ‘Fantastic Four’ has put her off watching the film, leaving her a ‘little bit gun-shy’. But despite strong critical reactions to the film, Mara explains that she still had a ‘good time’ making it.

“It was a tricky shoot,” she confessed… and with rumours that director Josh Trank made it rather difficult on set, that seems like a bit of an understatement. “But you know… when you know when you’re shooting it that a film isn’t going to be what you want it to be? That was not the case at all.”

Despite all the on-set awkwardness, Mara insists that the cast really stuck together and ‘really had each other’s backs’.

“That makes me most bummed because we have no idea if we’ll ever make another one.”

Of course, even before ‘Fantastic Four’ was released, 20th Century Fox had tentatively set a release date for the upcoming sequel.

Will this movie actually happen? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but the studio won’t forget what happened to ‘Fantastic Four’ in a hurry.

‘Fantastic Four 2’ is said to be scheduled for 9 June 2017.
