Kate Middleton and Prince William Broke Royal Tradition on Their Wedding Night

From Woman's Day

As Meghan Markle has recently been learning, life as a member of the royal family comes with a plethora of rules and traditions. And, according to a new report, Kate Middleton and Prince William allegedly broke an important royal tradition on their wedding night.

The Express reports that royal couples traditionally leave immediately for their honeymoon on the day of their wedding. However, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge didn't do this and apparently opted to spend the night at Buckingham Palace, instead.

As their wedding ceremony was televised, much like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's, it's likely that William and Kate were exhausted after a long day of festivities. And as William was set to return to work soon after the nuptials, it wasn't possible for the newlyweds to jet off on their honeymoon. At the time, Prince William was a search-and-rescue pilot, but he's since made the move to focus solely on his royal duties instead.

In fact, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge didn't leave for their honeymoon until ten days after their wedding, when they headed off to a private island in the Seychelles.

The Express also notes that it's currently not known where Meghan and Harry spent their wedding night, but as they also returned to work promptly after their nuptials, it's safe to say that they didn't travel very far.

Even though William and Kate technically broke royal tradition by spending their wedding night at Buckingham Palace, the decision doesn't seem to have had any negative ramifications.
