Kelly Clarkson wins primary custody of her children amid marriage split

Kelly Clarkson will have custody of her children most of the time, a Los Angeles County judge has ruled.

According to both People and TMZ, the singer and her estranged husband Brandon Blackstock were each seeking primary custody of daughter River Rose, 6, and son Remington Alexander, 4.

However, the judge decided the kids will stay mostly with Clarkson in L.A., the home of her talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show, rather than their ranch in Montana, where Blackstock plans to reside.

The court document reportedly reads: “The Court finds that under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children weighs in favor of Petitioner having primary custody.”

TMZ detailed that Blackstock will spend the first, third and fifth weekends of each month with the kids.

On all but one of those weekends — the third — he’ll be required to travel to them.

Neither member of the estranged couple is allowed to badmouth the other to their children, and they can’t consume alcohol or marijuana within eight hours of driving their children.

Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to Clarkson and Blackstock for comment.

A source told People that Clarkson is “pleased” with the ruling.

The Voice coach Clarkson said on the season premiere of her show in September that her two kids — along with Blackstock’s two children from a previous marriage — are her primary concern in the breakup.

“I’m a mama bear, and my kids come first,” Clarkson said.

The couple married in October 2013. Clarkson filed for divorce on 4 June, citing “irreconcilable differences”.

In September, Clarkson’s management company, Starstruck Management Group, which is run by her former father-in-law Narvel Blackstock, sued her for $1.4 million, which it says she owes per her contract.
