Yahoo Movies Kenneth Choi Joins Sony/Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’
EXCLUSIVE: Kenneth Choi who portrayed Judge Lance Ito in FX’s popular The People vs. O.J. Simpson has just been cast in Marvel/Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. That puts Choi in some rarefied air playing two separate characters in the Marvel universe. He also was in Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011. Sources said he will be playing the school principal in Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is set to open July 17, 2017, stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man in a reboot being directed by Jon Watts. Robert Downey Jr. came aboard in April, and Marisa Tomei has been cast as Peter Parker’s Aunt May. Michael Keaton is set as the villain.
Audiences got their first taste of the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War last month.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is being produced by Amy Pascal and Marvel’s Kevin Feige from a screenplay by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Of course, Steve Ditko and co-creator Stan Lee came up with the original comic, with Lee having the idea for the character of a shy, high school science student who is bitten by a radioactive spider and then becomes spider-like. Ditko took that idea and began illustrating and then also created a bevy of other supporting characters. Ditko also was the one who came up with Spidey’s iconic red suit and also created plots and Lee provided captions and dialogue.
Choi, who also in The Wolf of Wall Street and Sons of Anarchy, is repped by TalentWorks and Atlas Artists.
