'The Kids Are Alright' actor Eddie Hassell, 30, shot dead in Texas

Eddie Hassell, best known for starring in the 2010 comedy-drama The Kids Are Alright, has been shot dead in what is believed to be a car jacking incident in Texas.

The 30-year-old actor was outside his girlfriend's apartment in Grand Prairie, Dallas County, at 1.30am on Sunday when he was shot in the stomach.

According to Entertainment Weekly, police were called to the incident, where they discovered Hassell at the scene and administered first aid. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Detectives confirmed that a car had been taken from the scene of the shooting, but had later been recovered.

Hassell's girlfriend was in her apartment at the time of the shooting and did not see the assailants.

Grand Prairie Police Department is now asking for help from the public to identify the suspect or suspects involved.

Originally from Corsicana, Texas, Hassell moved to Los Angeles aged 11 to begin work as an actor, picking up a recurring role in the sci-fi series Surface.

He then landing the role of the wayward teenager Clay in Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are Alright alongside Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo and Mia Wasikowska.

Three years later, he appeared in the 2013 biopic Jobs, opposite Ashton Kutcher as the Apple luminary.

Most recently, he'd starred in punk crime thriller Bomb City, set in Texas, and the police drama series Longmire.
