Kiernan Shipka's new horror movie lands excellent Rotten Tomatoes score
Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka has a Halloween hit on her hands as her new horror movie has landed a frighteningly good Rotten Tomatoes score.
Totally Killer stars Shipka as Jamie, a teen who just wants to have fun with her friends on Halloween night despite her overprotective mother's objections.
But Jamie's mom (played by Modern Family star Julie Bowen) isn't just being a buzz kill as, 35 years ago, her friends were murdered by a man known as the Sweet Sixteen Killer.

As fate would have it, Jamie herself ends up coming face to face with the masked murderer on Halloween night and while running from him she finds herself transported back in time to 1987, where she must take down the killer once and for all.
Critics have found the film to be funny and charming thanks to its heavy load of '80s nostalgia and at the time of writing it has an 85 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Here's what some of the critics have said so far:
"Totally Killer may not go down as an instant classic, but it's still a very funny and totally charming time, thanks to [Nahnatchka] Khan's direction and a game cast. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it's also not trying to. It just wants viewers to have a fun time, and at that it absolutely succeeds. Add in a lot of blowjob jokes and plenty of commentary about sexism in the '80s and you've got a crowd-pleasing horror comedy that should put a big grin on your face from beginning to end."
"Even though Totally Killer takes inspiration from classic slashers, its combination of high school comedy and zany time travel makes it feel somewhat like what would happen if we got... an R-rated Disney Channel Original Movie. Totally Killer has more in common with a DCOM than you might think: silly concepts, high school hierarchies, corny special effects, and a genius best friend who can casually produce game-changing technology.
"But more than that, Totally Killer captures the pure delight of watching a DCOM, albeit for older audiences. This is the kind of movie you want to gather your friends to see all crammed into one living room, snacks in hand, ready to scream and laugh and cringe at the high school of it all. It might not be perfect, but when it comes to sheer fun, Totally Killer does, in fact, totally kill.
"Like Back to the Future meets Scream. Totally Killer doesn't care about being the wittiest, nastiest, or most subversive slasher of any era [but] tries to skirt responsibilities by having you laugh at its self-awareness, which works as much as it doesn't."
"Totally Killer is a delightful concoction of horror, comedy, and 80s nostalgia. It's a whodunnit slasher that offers suspense and laughs in equal measure, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre."
"Totally Killer may not reinvent the wheel, but its blend of Scream meets Disney Channel Original movie gets the job done quite admirably. The cast and the story’s heart makes up for any technical missteps, and while it definitely falls into the usual time travel traps, it makes fun of itself while doing so!"
"There’s some goofy fun to be had here, it’s just a shame there’s not more of it."
Totally Killer hits Prime Video on October 6.
