Kirsten Dunst is up for a Bring It On comeback.

The actor appeared in the hit high school comedy in 2000, along with Gabrielle Union, Eliza Dushku and Jesse Bradford, and told Kelly Clarkson that it would be great to do a sequel.

"If [the original creators] wanted to make another movie, I would make another movie. she said on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Why not? It'd be so fun."

The original film told the story of the Toros, a mostly-white cheerleading squad from a wealthy high school, who discover that their winning routines had been stolen by their former cheer captain from the Clovers, a Black and Hispanic squad from a poorer area.

New captain Torrance (Dunst) decides to scrap the stolen material in favour of the Toros creating their own which leads to hijinx, hilarious and romance as they gear up to face the impressive Clovers led by Union’s Isis.

The movie was directed by Ant-Man’s Peyton Reed, written by Jessica Bendinger and produced on an $11 million production budget.

"We made that movie for no money, zero money,” Dunst said. "It was a Universal movie, but like one of those that they were just like, 'Go do what you want', like this little cheerleading movie.

“And then opening week, we were all so surprised. That's always the best when you don't expect anything, and then it just became so huge."

Bring it On made $90.5 million and spawned five straight-to-video spin-offs featuring none of the original cast members: Bring It On Again (2004), Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006), Bring It On: In It to Win It (2007), Bring It On: Fight to the Finish (2009), and Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack (2017).

Union recently posted a picture of her daughter wearing a Clovers-inspired outfit.

“Bring it!!!!! Thank you @runzarestaurants for [Kaavia’s] Runza Clovers outfit to kick off her very 1st visit to #Nebraska,” she captioned the Instagram photo.

She still has her original cheerleading uniform too.

When asked in 2017 by PeopleStyle what the oldest thing in her closet is, Union said: “Probably my wedding dress and maybe my Bring It On cheerleading outfit - not that I wear it!”
