Kristen Stewart fans thrilled as she lands first-ever Oscar nomination for 'Spencer'

Kristen Stewart has scored her first-ever Academy Awards nomination and her fans couldn’t be happier.

The 31-year-old actor was honoured with a nod in the Best Actress category for her critically praised portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer when Oscar nominations 2022 were announced on Tuesday.

The Twilight star faces stiff competition from Olivia Colman, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Chastain and Penélope Cruz in the category, however, her fans are happy to celebrate her latest career high.

One tweeted: “Ok now i finally can stop crying happy tears and form a few words : KRISTEN STEWART IS AN OSCAR NOMINEE.

“I am so proud of her and she fking deserves it. She put her whole heart into this and I m so happy about her finally being recognized.”

“Kristen Stewart (‘Spencer’) becomes the first openly gay performer to be nominated for an Oscar for acting in 20 years. The last time it happened was Ian McKellen for ‘Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’ in 2002,” another pointed out.

Elsewhere, one fan stated: “good morning to everyone but ESPECIALLY OSCAR NOMINEE KRISTEN STEWART!!!!!!!”

“Kristen Stewart is a #Oscar nominated actress and I couldn’t be more happy! She deserved this and so much more!!!” another stated.

Indeed, the Happiest Season actress had received nothing but praise for her performance in the film which focuses on a three week period in 1991, when Princess Diana's marriage to Prince Charles was already breaking down.

However, the Charlie's Angel star previously stated that she didn't "give a s***" about the Oscar buzz surrounding her work.

Speaking on Variety's Awards Circuit Podcast in November, she explained: "The Oscars are such a funny thing. There are so many incredible movies and performances that barely get seen.

"It definitely says something about where we’re at as a cumulative presence, what we’re looking at, what we care about."

After a reduced ceremony in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards show is heading back to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood this year, with many hoping that all the glitz and glamour will be back in full force.

The 94th Oscars will take place on 27 March in Los Angeles.
