Kylie Minogue opens up about her 'sex and drug-fuelled' romance with Michael Hutchence

Kylie Minogue has opened up about her ‘sex and drug-fuelled’ relationship with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence.

Speaking in the shocking new documentary Mystify: Michael Hutchence, Minogue revealed how her romance with the singer – which lasted from 1989 to 1991 – introduced her to a world of “pleasure” and “desire”.

“Sex, love, food, drugs, music, travel, books, you name it, he wanted to experience it,” Minogue told the filmmakers.

“As his partner I got to experience a lot of that as well. If you’re a sensual being, all of your senses need stimulation. He definitely awakened my desire for things in my world.”

She added: “He had insatiable curiosity, all the good things in life and some the bad. He opened up a whole new world for me. A lot of it was based around pleasure, let’s face it.

The documentary features intimate footage of the couple, but despite their chemistry, the pop singer said their relationship was “probably doomed”.

Describing the moment she ended their relationship, she said: “He was on all fours on the floor crying. I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know what was happening. I just know he was a broken man.

“I’d never seen any man like that before. I left pretty confounded and destroyed and knew that was it. He broke my heart. I have to confess that the hurt stayed for quite a long time.”

Shortly after their split, Hutchence started a relationship with Danish supermodel Helena Christensen, but his life soon took an unfortunate turn after he was punched by a taxi driver and suffered brain damage.

Christensen said that he soon became “dark and angry”. Hutchence later suffered bouts of depression before committing suicide at the age of 37.
