It was inevitable – ‘La La Land’ is heading to the West End.

After almost picking up Best Picture at last night’s Oscar’s, it looks as though the critically-applauded musical drama is being adapted for the West End. So you’ll soon be able to dress up for a night at the theatre to watch your favourite Oscar winner.

But probably without Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

According to The Sun, prolific Broadway and West End producer Sonia Friedman revealed that an adaptation of the much-loved movie is already in the works.

“I would love to produce it,” she said. “I know who’s going to produce it and it won’t be me.”

“Of course it will happen,” she added, seemingly backtracking. “It’s made for the stage and it will happen. But I’m sure the rights have already gone somewhere else.”

Friedman, whose own credits include ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ as well as hit R&B musical, ‘Dreamgirls’, was speaking at the What’sOnStage Awards at the Prince of Wales at the weekend.

But what form will the ‘La La Land’ musical take?

Producer Jordan Horowitz has previously stated that the inevitable theatre adaptation will get a lot more, newly written songs. “I don’t necessarily know what the stage musical looks like.”

“I think we’ll write more songs and there will be work to do,” he added. “We will have to figure out what about the story we want to keep.”

Of course, Damien Chazelle clinched Best Director for ‘La La Land’ at last night’s Oscars, with Emma Stone nabbing Best Actress. However, Ryan Gosling lost out on Best Actor to Casey Affleck, while Moonlight (now-famously) grabbed Best Picture for under their nose.

We’re guessing that bit wont be in the West End musical…
