Labyrinth Gets A 30th Anniversary Special Release

It looks as though ‘Labyrinth’ could be heading back to cinemas…

According to USA Today, the classic 1986 fantasy flick is getting a 30th Anniversary re-release… as well as a brand new anniversary edition DVD and Blu-ray.

“For those who missed out on seeing it on the big screen in 1986, the film is coming to select theaters around the [USA] Sept. 11 and 14 through Fathom Events,” they revealed. “Plus, the fantasy film — directed by Henson, executive produced by George Lucas and scripted by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame — receives a new anniversary edition on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD on Sept. 20.”

Although it’s clearly an American re-release, it’s thought that a similar cinema release will take place in the UK.

After all, it would be a great tribute to the late, great David Bowie.

“In addition to having legacy content such as a making-of documentary and commentary by designer Brian Froud, the new Blu-ray is a 24-page ‘digibook’ edition with rare behind-the-scenes photos and extras including Connelly and the Henson family discussing Jim Henson’s puppetry and filmmaking, an anniversary Q&A hosted by MythBusters’ Adam Savage, and a Bowie remembrance by Connelly and Henson’s children.”

Unfortunately, it seems the new Blu-ray isn’t quite ready to pre-order.

But that’s not the only new addition, with new, exclusive content included along with the USA screenings.

“Exclusive content will also be shown as part of the Fathom screenings, and Amazon will have for sale a limited-edition Labyrinth Blu-ray gift set with ‘mirrorbox’ packaging based on the final scene from the film.”

It’s currently unknown what this new exclusive content will be… but we definitely don’t need an excuse to go and watch ‘Labyrinth’ on the big screen. Count us in.

‘Labyrinth’ appears in cinemas later this year.
