Lady Gaga has rubbished rumours she and A Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper were ever romantically involved after an intense performance at the Oscars earlier in the year set tongues wagging.

The 33-year-old singer claims the intense performance of soundtrack song Shallow, which sent the internet into meltdown when she and Cooper gazed into each other's eyes in the passionate routine, was "orchestrated".

The singer was asked about the rumours by Oprah Winfrey for Elle, as the talk show host explained that she had recently spent time with Cooper, 44, who said he "wouldn't have be able to look [Lady Gaga] in the eye" during the Oscar's routine if it were true.

To which Lady Gaga responded: "Quite frankly, I think the press is very silly. I mean, we made a love story.

“For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love. And we wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars.

"We wanted it to go right through the lens of that camera and to every television that it was being watched on. And we worked hard on it, we worked for days.

“We mapped the whole thing out—it was orchestrated as a performance."

Earlier this year, Cooper split from his partner of four years and the mother of his two-year-old daughter, Irina Shayk. They were still in a relationship at the time of the performance.

Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, won the Oscar for Best Original Song for Shallow as well as receiving a nomination in the Best Actress category for A Star Is Born. Meanwhile, Cooper was also nominated for Best Actor for his role in the film.
