Lady Gaga reveals why she sang differently for Joker: Folie à Deux
Lady Gaga has explained why her singing voice sounds different for Joker: Folie à Deux.
The Poker Face singer plays Harley Quinn in the upcoming Joker sequel alongside Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker. Gaga wanted to separate herself from the iconic character and decided even the vocals she recorded for the film should be unique.
"I had to create something completely new and stay away from things that feel really natural to me and only use those things when it was right for moments of fantasy for Arthur, when he was dreaming," the star told Access Hollywood's Scott Evans. "The other moments it was more, how do I create something that's coming from this very broken person and also she's not a singer."
Elsewhere in the interview, Gaga revealed she's content in both her personal and professional life and finally feels able to use her creativity "in a really free way".
The 38-year-old star also shared how her mother instantly knew her now-fiancé Michael Polansky was the perfect match.
Gaga's mom was so convinced they were meant to be together she urged her daughter to give the relationship her whole heart.
You don't always take your mom's advice but, mom did good," she smiled.
Joker: Folie à Deux is released in cinemas in early October.
