According to Variety, the casting department had previously been asking actors to read scenes taken directly from the game The Last of Us Part II, on which the second season will be based. The process is now on hold indefinitely.
Season two scripts are yet to be completed, with series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann pausing all work on the show in keeping with strike guidelines.
"The moment-to-moment beats and characters, they might stay the same, they might change," Druckmann revealed. "We will do what needs to happen to that story as it transfers from one medium to another."
The Last of Us airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK.
