Layton Williams is lining up a Strictly Come Dancing reunion in a new movie.

The star, who was a runner-up on last year's edition of the BBC show, is set to appear in new film The Light Fantastic.

The project will see the performer reunite with head judge Shirley Ballas, who is choreographing the movie alongside her son Mark.

The Light Fantastic focuses on a thirty-something gay firefighter (played by Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again's Jeremy Irvine) in Blackpool, who harbours dreams of becoming a pro ballroom dancer.

He battles the rigid traditions of ballroom under his traditional instructor Reynolds (Napoleon's Rupert Everett), and also goes on a journey of self-discovery as he learns to listen to his heart.

The movie will also star Femme's Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, with The Problem with People's Chris Cottam set to direct and Shameless' Lee Warburton writing the screenplay.

Production company Cornerstone’s Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder described the film as "full of dance, comedy and great music".

Layton has been busy since his stint on Strictly, recently starring in the West End revival of Cabaret as the Emcee.

He has also signed-on to star in the West End transfer of jukebox musical Titanique, which parodies 1997's Titanic from the viewpoint of singer Céline Dion.

The production follows "what really happened to Jack and Rose on that fateful night" and has been called a "one-of-a-kind theatrical voyage bursting with nostalgia, heart and campy chaos".

Layton will play the role of the Iceberg, with the "musical fantasia" set to open at the Criterion Theatre on December 9.

The Light Fantastic is set to begin production next year, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
