So Rey is Luke Skywalker’s daughter, is she? Seems not, unless Mark Hamill’s hairy Jedi is suffering from an acute bout of amnesia.

New footage from ‘The Last Jedi’ was shown to Disney shareholders and a select few others yesterday, including a rather telling exchange between Skywalker and the notably surnameless Rey.

“Who are you?” he asks, meaning that the fan theory that they’re related appears to have been blown out of the water. Though she could perhaps be his niece.

Anyhow, it feels like that particular avenue might be closing off, so perhaps she’s not a Skywalker, but a Kenobi (she’s probably not an Organa, as that might have come up in conversation with Princess Leia in ‘The Force Awakens’).

That said, Hero Complex editor Meredith Woerner reports that Disney boss Bob Iger called ‘The Last Jedi’ ‘a perfect chapter in the iconic Skywalker family drama’, so it would seem some family revelations are in the post.

Wild speculation aside, LA Times reporter Daniel Miller was at the screening of the footage, and unleashed a series of tweets featuring some tantalising details.

The movie, starring Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and the late Carrie Fisher is due out on December 15.
