Leicester City’s Premier League Win Gets A Movie

It’s official – Leicester City is getting a film about its Premier League win.

According to Deadline, the 2015-2106 Premier League win by Leicester City is going to be adapted for the big screen… by the Oscar-nominated writers who brought us ‘The Fighter’.

“Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, the Oscar-nominated screenwriters of The Fighter and who also penned the upcoming Boston Marathon bombing pic Patriots Day, have found a new project to kick around.”

Apparently, Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson’s screenplay will focus on Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy and his journey from factory worker to top-scoring striker and Premier League winner.

“They have been set to write a screenplay with Goal: The Dream Begins scribe Adrian Butchart about Leicester City, the club which despite 5000-to-1 odds won the English Premiere League title this year overcoming perennial monied powerhouses like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.”

Of course, Hollywood does love a good underdog story…

‘Eddie the Eagle’ starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman was recently met with rave reviews… and holds an impressive 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But can Leicester City warm the hearts of a global audience?

“The story represents everything we love in a movie,“ Tamasy told Deadline.

“This is more than a sports film,” added Johnson. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime story about the fulfilment of impossible dreams and the strength of the human spirit. It’s also a hell of a lot of fun. I’m extremely excited and proud to be a part of it.”

Will the Leicester City movie rival the likes of ‘Cool Runnings’?
