Since Chris Rock gave the Girl Scout Cookie industry a worldwide audience at this year’s Oscars, things have really stepped up a notch.

Now they’ve got Leonardo DiCaprio stumping for them – appearing in a cheeky poster posted on the Girl Scout Cookies Facebook page which has now gone viral, being shared and liked tens of thousands of times.

“Leo wants an Oscar. Leo buys Girl Scout Cookies at the Awards,” it reads.

“Leo wins an Oscar. Leo is smart. Be like Leo. Buy Girl Scout Cookies.”

It’s a persuasive – if slightly unofficial – argument, that’s for sure. Had he known the link between buying Girl Scout Cookies and winning Oscars, he’d have bought them sooner.

Oscar-winning DiCaprio was among the slew of celebs who dug deep and bought a box of cookies during the Oscar show.

Rock brought out his daughters Lola and Zahra during the ceremony, in the hope of beating the sales record of a ‘Mrs. Linda Dunn’.

“I’ve been away from my two daughters at a very important time in their life. I have missed most of Girl Scout cookie season,” he said.

“Last night Zahra, my youngest called me up and said, “Daddy how come we never sell the most cookies? How come Mrs. Dunn wins every year?”

“It would mean so much to my little girl if we could beat Linda Dunn.

“I want you to reach into your millionaire pockets and buy some of my daughters’ Girl Scout cookies.

“Alright, Tina Fey, get that money, girl. Charlize Theron, yes. Matt Damon, yes. Leo, you made $30 million—come on!”

Indeed, he then spent some of that $30 million on a box of shortbread-style Trefoils.

In all, the live cookie drive made around $2500 for his daughters’ troop - not quite the $65,000 announced on the night, it’s emerged - with the money raised from sales going towards outdoors programmes, travel and other activities.

New Jersey-based Linda Dunn, whose daughter is in the Englewood Cliffs Cadets Troop with Rock’s daughters, has since said that there’s no hard feelings when it comes to Rock’s towering haul.

“All of a sudden my phone starts ringing,” she said of the challenge.

“My email blows up. Everyone is calling to say Chris Rock just threw down the gauntlet. Did he really do that? He is nuts. It was all fun and all for a great cause.”
