What Lewis Capaldi said in his censored Brits Awards 2020 acceptance speech
The Brit Awards aren't the infamously rowdy affairs that they were during their heyday in the 1990s, but sometimes there are moments that mean the TV broadcasts go out on a brief delay, so that the producers can whack the mute button.
That's what happened at tonight's (February 18) ceremony, where Lewis Capaldi went up to receive his award for New Artist of the Year.
Viewers on ITV were greeted with about half a minute of silence as Capaldi approached the podium, accepted his award and made a quick speech before walking away. A graphic on screen explained that the audio was muted, so it wasn't a technical error.

Over on the YouTube stream, where they aren't restricted by Ofcom's pre-watershed guidelines, viewers heard Capaldi's acceptance speech, where he simply said: "Thank you very f**king much."
No wonder ITV pressed the mute button.
As well as winning an award, Capaldi also performed his hit single 'Somebody You Loved', and continued to pop up during the ad breaks to sing the song again as part of a commercial for a smartphone.
Interestingly, ITV did not mute Tyler the Creator's acceptance speech, where he said that former Prime Minister Theresa May was probably sitting at home "pissed off" watching the show, and claimed that she tried to stop him coming in the country five years ago.
