When it comes to Superman, there's one criminal mastermind who stands head and shoulders above the rest. Since his appearance in the 1978 'Superman' movie, he's become one of the most well-known comic book villains in the world.
I'm talking, of course, about Lex Luthor… and it looks as though he might just return in 'Batman vs. Superman'.
During our live Q&A with Zack Snyder, the 'Batman vs. Superman' director mentioned one of Superman's greatest adversaries - Lex Luthor. And it seems to have set tongues wagging.
"It's a sci-fi movie," he said about 'Man of Steel'. "It's an invasion film and then Superman is kinda like in there. And we really wanted to do that because I felt like at its core Superman is an alien, comes from an alien world. And it's a thing that has kinda been touched on but it's not the first thing that jumps out…"
"Lex loves to call him an alien," he added. "And I think that's cool."
Of course, it's not exactly much to go on… but when Kevin Smith added "that's a spoiler, kids" it seems to have set the internet ablaze. But will Lex really appear in the 'Man of Steel' sequel?
At the moment, we have no idea… even if it has been widely rumoured for some time. It's likely that Snyder was referring to Clark and Lex's relationship in the comic books, but the knowing smile between Snyder and Smith certainly spoke volumes. Not to mention Kevin Smith bringing up Lex Luthor at various points throughout the event.
So for now, it's not exactly an official confirmation… but I'd say that the chances of seeing Lex Luthor in some form during 'Batman vs. Superman' are increasing by the day. But who will play this iconic villain? With names such as Mark Strong and Bryan Cranston being murmured amongst the fans, it looks as though it could be his greatest incarnation yet.
Do you think Lex Luthor will appear in 'Batman vs. Superman'? Who do you think will play him? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
