Life: Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal star in debut space thriller trailer

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for ‘Life’, a space-set thriller starring Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rebecca Ferguson, that asks the age-old question – “what if we’re not alone in the universe… and can we kill it with flamethrowers?”

Watch the first ‘Life’ above.

Written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the filmmaking duo responsible for ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Zombieland’, ‘Life’ seems to be more straight-laced than their previous comedic films, and it shows a team of astronauts aboard the International Space Station who bring an alien life form aboard.

As you can see from the trailer, we’re not talking about a benevolent cuddly E.T.-style critter, and things go from bad to worse for the crew hence the need for the aforementioned flamethrowers.

Here’s the official synopsis: Life’ tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.

‘Life’ is coming to cinemas in May, 2017.
