We'll soon know exactly when After Life is set to be revived by Netflix, with Ricky Gervais confirming that season two's release date will be announced later today (February 13).

The comedian, writer, and actor revealed the news that After Life season two's release date will be confirmed before the day is up, telling fans on Twitter: "I'll have the #AfterLife2 release date for you by the end of today!"

Thanks, Ricky.

In case you haven't caught the first season, Ricky's Netflix series After Life follows Tony (Gervais) as he comes to terms with the death of his wife from breast cancer and navigates the messy world of grief.

The – sometimes very – black comedy sees Tony grapple with suicidal thoughts, before eventually deciding that his new-found "superpower" is to say and do whatever the hell he wants.

Praised for its edgy humour and genuinely tender moments, After Life was confirmed for a second season back in April last year, but it's also likely to be the last.

Speaking about the potential of another run, Gervais said last summer that he currently only has plans for a one-off special after season two ends – "unless I can get some of the cast to help me write the third series and just sit back and just turn up," he added.

The Office creator also admitted that he felt taken aback by the response to the series, revealing: "You suddenly realise everyone is grieving but they don't usually tell a stranger.

"I wasn't expecting that. I didn't think it was the most important thing about the show – for me it was a dramatic device to deliver jokes, drama."

The best news about the return of After Life, though? Being able to watch it with the assurance that Tony's dog Brandy isn't going anywhere.
