Before that, the movie will explore the Atlanta native's move to Los Angeles as a teenager and her career's fast climb with her mother, Sharon Murphy, along for the entire ride. She would be able to capitalize on a “fish out of water role” in “Clueless” to starring roles in “Just Married,” “Little Black Book,” “Girl, Interrupted” and “8 Mile.”

The movie will explore Murphy's struggles with confidence and issues about her looks — even as her star continued to rise.

She would die in 2009. The coroner ruled her death an accident caused by a combination of pneumonia, an iron deficiency and “multiple drug intoxication.” All the drugs were legal. In life, Murphy battled against reports that she used illegal drugs.

The movie won't stop there. Her estranged father, Angelo Bertolotti, would come forward with his evidence four years later stating that his daughter had been poisoned. And, suddenly, her mother would be thrust back in the spotlight.

“The Brittany Murphy Story” premieres Saturday, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. ET.
