'Like I'd been hit by a truck' - Kym Marsh talks terrifying hospital ordeal

Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has opened up about a terrifying ordeal that saw her rushed to hospital with suspected salmonella poisoning.

The actress, who plays Michelle Connor in the ITV soap, wrote in her OK! column that she had spent last week battling a tough illness in hospital.

She wrote: “I felt so awful I had to go to the Alexandra Hospital in Manchester.

“I was shaking, I felt terrible and like I’d been hit by a truck. They ran lots of tests on me and I’m still waiting for the results, but doctors think it could be salmonella poisoning, which is really serious.”

The main symptoms of salmonella poisoning are diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, fever, and vomiting, although Marsh didn’t go into the grim detail of what she’d experienced.

Marsh was clearly shaken up by the experience, which she called terrifying, and said that her children had had to help with organising family life while she was stuck in bed.

She wrote: “The ordeal has been terrifying and I’ve never felt so ill! I was bed-ridden for four days.

“The whole family rallied around me, David and Emilie had to get Polly up and ready for school because I couldn’t get out of bed.”

She also featured in the magazine as she posed for pictures at her daughter Emilie’s baby shower ahead of becoming a grandma for the first time.

Daughter Emilie, 22, has moved back in with her famous mum who will be her birthing partner, and the party included Marsh’s soap co-star Alison King.

Recently, Marsh announced that she would be taking a break from her long-running role in Corrie later this year.

She explained that she would be taking up a role in Elf: The Musical, so fingers crossed she makes a full recovery in time for rehearsals starting.
