Liverpool battling Arsenal for incredible Bayern Munich raid; bidding to begin at €60m
Arsenal and Liverpool have joined Barcelona in pursuing an imperious Bayern Munich star, and Fabrizio Romano has delivered an emphatic update on whether a transfer is possible.
The Reds and Gunners are known to be on the prowl for high class midfield additions this summer. Indeed, the Times claimed Arsenal have greenlit a monumental £170m double coup for Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice. Making way from Mikel Arteta’s current options is Granit Xhaka who is on course to join Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool, meanwhile, recently confirmed Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner will leave as free agents. Combined with the expiry of Arthur Melo’s loan, a midfield overhaul is now a necessity, not a luxury.
Alexis Mac Allister is the player hoovering up most of the Liverpool headlines at present. However, according to Spanish outlet Marca, both Liverpool and Arsenal have a Bayern Munich ace in mind.
Marca run the rule over Barcelona’s budding interest in German maestro, Joshua Kimmich. Buried deep within the piece is the simple claim ‘Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested’ in the 28-year-old.
Little else is given away from the perspective of the English sides, though it is noted Barcelona are unlikely to be the ones signing Kimmich.
That’s because he’ll reportedly cost ‘no lower’ than €60m in the event he is surprisingly allowed to leave Munich at season’s end. A figure of that size is not viable for Barcelona in their current financial state.
Kimmich remains an integral part of everything Bayern do well and has been on their books since 2015.
There’s another two years left to run on his contract and with a new era under Thomas Tuchel just beginning, a summer sale appears highly unlikely.
To that end, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on the Kimmich to Barcelona rumours. While Romano only referenced Barcelona in his tweet, what was said applies to Arsenal and Liverpool too.
Romano tweeted on May 17: “Understand Bayern stance on Joshua Kimmich, very clear: he’s untouchable and not on the market this summer.
“Bayern have no intention to negotiate for Kimmich despite reports on Barca; also, they consider Joshua as crucial player for club’s project.”
Barring a shock change of heart or Liverpool and Arsenal offering a sum that’s too good to ignore, Kimmich will not be leaving Munich this summer.
