Logan’s Run Remake Will Be Hunger-Games-Style Franchise

It looks as though ‘Logan’s Run’ will be trying to replicate the movie’s it’s inspired… with the remake being compared to the ‘Hunger Games’.

During an interview with Collider, writer and producer Simon Kinberg explained that the upcoming ‘Logan’s Run’ remake is now a priority for Warner Bros.

“It’s something that potentially is their Hunger Games kind of franchise that is about a younger audience for a younger audience with a big idea,” he said. “And Logan’s Run, as you know, is the granddaddy of Maze Runner and Hunger Games and so many of these books and movies now. So yeah, they’re seeing it as a potentially really big franchise.

Simon Kinberg also claimed that ‘Logan’s Run’ is now ‘definitely’ a priority for the studio… and considering the huge success of the ‘Hunger Games’ franchise, it’s easy to see why they might want a repeat performance.

“We are talking to directors for that movie [right now],” he said.

But can they really string out an entire franchise that cuts so close to the recent ‘Hunger Games’ saga? It may not have been the original plan, but it seems they’re going to try.

“There is some thought about what the future films would be and where you could take Logan in future movies,” said Kinberg. “But the focus is on ‘Make a great movie.’ It was ‘Let’s make one great movie that people fall in love with but be prepared that if they do, we could make future films and what would they look like and where would you go again with the character in the next film?’”

It certainly sounds as though ‘Logan’s Run’ could fill the void left by ‘The Hunger Games’ – which will be coming to a close with ‘Mockingjay: Part 2’. But there will be plenty of the original movie in the upcoming remake.

“There’s a lot from the original movie,” he said. “I love the original movie and I think the storytelling in the original movie is pretty wonderful. The setup is great, I think there’s a lot of world creation that’s pretty awesome as well, though ultimately that’ll be the director’s domain. But yeah there’s a lot from the original film in it, and then there’s a lot of—I guess I would call it reinterpretation from the original film rather than just a whole scale recreation.”

Of course, I wouldn’t mind betting that Logan doesn’t even make it to the age of thirty… especially if Warner Bros. wants to keep the franchise relevant to the Young Adult market.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
