Loki May Not Return After Thor: Ragnarok

It looks as though ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ could be Loki’s final film.

During an interview with The Daily Beast, actor Tom Hiddleston revealed that ‘Ragnarok’ could be his last stint as the extremely popular Marvel villain, Loki.

“Thor 3 will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years,” he explained. “I love working with Chris [Hemsworth]. This will be my last time out of the gate.”

Of course, the folks at The Daily Beast were taken aback… and quickly asked Hiddleston whether or not he’d be returning for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. But this time, he was giving nothing away.

“I don’t know! Honestly, I don’t know,” he said with a shrug. “They haven’t got their ducks in a row yet. They make it up as they go along.”

Obviously, we know this isn’t quite true.

After all, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has previously detailed the extensive planning that goes into crafting the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But there is always a little wriggle-room… and with such a popular character, I can’t help wondering whether fan response will be a factor.

Either way, it sounds as though Hiddleston won’t be planning for it.

But is there a good reason that Loki won’t be around?

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ already sounds rather ominous – after all, the title itself refers to the great battle foretold in Norse mythology, which essentially brings about the end of the world. It’s also the name of an iconic Marvel character, a cyborg clone of Thor himself, who was told that he would bring the end of the world.

Will Loki survive the events of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but Norse mythology suggests he’s a goner.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ heads to cinemas on 27 October 2017.
