Gugu Mbatha-Raw has weighed in on playing her biggest action role yet in Netflix's Lift.

The Loki actress appeared on The One Show tonight (January 11), spilling the beans on working with Kevin Hart and the rest of Lift's talented bunch, directed by F Gary Gray (The Italian Job, The Fate of the Furious).

Mbatha-Raw plays Interpol agent Abbie, who tracks down her ex-boyfriend Cyrus (Hart) when she needs his help pulling off the ultimate heist: steal $100 million in gold bullion being transported on a 777 passenger flight.

Cyrus calls his trusted collaborators, putting together a gang of experts in various fields to get the best shot at completing the perilous mission.

"It is so much fun, this movie," Mbatha-Raw said. "It is epic, fast-paced, action-packed [and it has] a lovely ensemble."

Speaking on the relationship between Abbie and Cyrus, Mbatha-Raw teased a "cool backstory".

"They had a little romantic fling in the past when they were both undercover so there's this sort of banter, this sort of fun chemistry between them," she said.

Despite her tough demeanour, Abbie gets roped into the heist, warming up to Cyrus and his pals.

"It's really about Abbie getting drawn into the gang as they perform this crazy heist on an aeroplane," she said.

"I really love Abbie because, even more than Loki, there is so much more action in this for me," she revealed, teasing "incredible fights" and "stunt sequences".

"We've got these huge sequences on a plane," she added.

"It really is!" she then said when asked whether this was the most fighting she's ever done on film.

Also produced by Hart, Lift is a comedy first and foremost, with Mbatha-Raw appreciating being able to mix things up after having been on some intense series like The Girl Before and Apple TV+'s Surface.

"The tone of this is so lighthearted," she said, describing the movie as "uplifting and fun".

"It's a really cool ride."

Alongside Mbatha-Raw and Hart, Lift stars Echo's Vincent D'Onofrio, Money Heist's Úrsula Corberó, Spider-Man: No Way Home's Jacob Batalon and Avatar: The Way of Water's Sam Worthington, with Yun Jee Kim, Billy Magnussen and Jean Reno also featuring.

Lift is released on Netflix on January 12.
