London Has Fallen Trailer Slammed By 7/7 Victims’ Trust

The release of the trailer for action sequel ‘London Has Fallen’ has been attacked as 'insensitive’, coming within days of the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 terrorist attacks.

The clip, which shows off the destruction of some of London’s iconic landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, was released yesterday by studio Lionsgate.

But the timing of its arrival has come under criticism.

Philip Nelson, who chairs the Tavistock Square Memorial Trust, told the Daily Mirror: “This is not the first time that Hollywood has been insensitive.

“If the story is about terrorism then this is extremely insensitive. People have also recently died of a terrorist attack in Tunisia.

“I have seen an image of Big Ben with the clock face blown out, that’s also insensitive.“

“[Our Trust] has had lots of help from America so I just think that these are the wrong images to portray.”

The film, which does have a terrorist plot, sees Gerard Butler reprising his role from 'Olympus Has Fallen’, in which the White House was destroyed by terrorists.

He plays secret service agent Mike Banning, who is tasked with foiling a plot to murder the world’s most powerful leaders, as they attend the funeral of the British prime minister.

Movie fans online have also taken the timing to task:

So far Lionsgate has not commented on the timing of the trailer release.

Also starring Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Charlotte Riley, it’s due out across the UK in early 2016.
