The long-rumoured Harry Potter RPG has officially been announced during Sony's PlayStation 5 showcase and it's called Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy will be coming to PS5 in 2021, confirming the leaks earlier in the year.

The game will be set in the 1800s and, thankfully, you won't be playing as Harry Potter and it looks like you'll be able to create your own character.

If you don't get to make your own character, you could be playing as an as-of-yet unnamed student "who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart".

It looks like it's going to give players a quintessential Hogwarts experience: the chance to brew potions, blast people with spells, fly on hippogriffs and go about being a good student of Hogwarts.

Hopefully, you'll be able to choose your own House which obviously would be Slytherin because who doesn't want to be an overtly evil student?

According to leaks earlier this year and in 2018, there was a trailer and screenshots showing off the game.

From the trailer we were shown last night, the open-world rumours look to be true, especially when you consider the section seen where your character is flying through the sky on the back of what could be a hippogriff.

It does seem like we will be able to completely explore a “re-created Hogwarts and its surrounding areas”, which will be a dream come true to fans who have always wanted just that.

Previous Harry Potter games, based on the popular film series, did offer such a thing but it was extremely limited.

The best, in our opinion, was by far the Prisoner of Azkaban on the PS2, which let you fly around the grounds of Hogwarts on your broom or on the majestic hippogriff.

Who knew a game set in the world of Harry Potter could look so good?

Hogwarts Legacy is expected to be out sometime in 2021.
