The New Look EP Talks Season 2 Outlook — and the Fashion Icon He Has Designs On Adding

Christian Dior’s career is set to soar into a new era in The New Look Season 1 finale — but will his story continue on Apple TV+?

The final episode (releasing Wednesday, April 3) will follow the designer as he debuts his now-legendary “New Look” collection, pushing France into an era of creation and creativity following the catastrophes of World War II. As Dior climbs his way to the top of the fashion world, Episode 10 feels like a perfect place for the series to end. Executive producer Todd A. Kessler, however, told TVLine in February that the story isn’t finished, though it has yet to be officially renewed.

“With all the series that I’ve created, the goal is to have five or six seasons worth of storytelling,” Kessler said. (His prior producing credits include Damages and Bloodline.) He added that he wouldn’t have taken on The New Look unless it was intended to extend beyond Season 1.

In real life, Dior passed away just 10 years after the events that will be depicted in the freshman finale. Despite the main character’s death at age 52, Kessler promised that there’s still plenty of material to be mined in the post-WWII fashion world.

In fact, Kessler admitted he was shocked to find that “the worlds kept opening up” while doing research for the series, and he found “more and more incredible stories” from people who lived during that time period.

During his research, Kessler became familiar with the lives of numerous fashion designers beyond the main two, Coco Chanel and Dior, highlighted in the series, including Balenciaga, Balmain and Givenchy. But he zeroed in on one designer in particular when thinking about the continuation of The New Look: Yves Saint Laurent.

After Dior’s death, Saint Laurent, who was just 21 at the time, took over the brand, which Kessler called “the world’s most profitable, influential fashion house.”

Kessler revealed that, should the series be renewed for a second season, it would “go on to tell the Yves Saint Laurent story — which is incredibly compelling and rivals the Dior story.”
