Amazon Prime is assembling the cast for its The Lord of the Rings TV series, and when you've got as many characters as one of JRR Tolkien's works, you can expect there to be a lot of casting announcements.

Today's one is a star from Russell T Davies' incredible Years and Years. Maxim Baldry isn't a household name at the moment, but you'll remember him as Viktor from the Black Mirror-esque drama.

He was also Liam Donovan in Hollyoaks across 2016 and 2017, but that role was recast to Jude Monk McGowan, who has played Liam since 2018 to the present day. Going back even further, Maxim was in Mr Bean's Holiday.

Collider broke the news of his casting, and although we don't know who he will be portraying, it will be a significant role, apparently.

The show has previously announced the casting of Australian actress Markella Kavenagh as a character that is supposedly called Tyra. Meanwhile, Midsommar star Will Poulter has joined in an undisclosed role that could be the male lead.

Recently, Game of Thrones author George RR Martin talked about how he thinks the Lord of the Rings book ends in a really unsatisfactory way, and wants to know about the tax policies of Middle-earth.

No, he really does.

Lord of the Rings will air on Amazon Prime, with no confirmed release date yet.
